Unfortunately, 94% of those who met the criteria for a substance use disorder did not get treatment. You’re in the right place if you’re looking for an intensive outpatient program in New Jersey. Prevail Recovery Center wants to change the statistics and help people get the care they need. So, what should you know?

This page will discuss what to expect in our intensive outpatient program in NJ, the distinguishing factors between partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, how a step-down approach can be of value in addiction treatment, and why clients choose Prevail Recovery Center.

Intensive Outpatient Program: NJ

Prevail Recovery Center is a fully outpatient treatment center with multiple levels of care. Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) are a popular form of care used in addiction treatment centers. Often, IOP involves a combination of treatments, including but not limited to individual therapy, groups, and medication management. All clients in our intensive outpatient program in NJ get an individualized treatment plan, so the specific treatments and modalities you engage in will depend on your needs.

In many cases, intensive outpatient programs are used as a step-down form of care because they are more intensive than outpatient but less intensive than partial hospitalization or inpatient programs. Even though partial hospitalization allows you to live off-campus like IOP, there are differences between the two.

Partial Hospitalization vs. IOP in New Jersey

The main difference between partial hospitalization programs (PHP) and intensive outpatient programs is their required time commitment. Partial hospitalization is exactly what it sounds like. Although you still get to sleep and live off-campus while in PHP, you are expected to attend treatment all day, six days per week in PHP. Since PHP requires such an extensive amount of time, clients must take time off of work, school, and other commitments.

The higher time commitment required for partial hospitalization makes PHP an ideal option for those who are first entering care at our treatment facility, whether they have attended before and wish to return or are a client at Prevail Recovery Center for the first time.

On the other hand, IOP is ideal for those who have already completed PHP and are ready for the increased freedom and flexibility it provides. You will still attend treatment throughout the week in IOP, but usually for around 12-15 hours per week. IOP’s lower time commitment allows clients to start working, return to school, or otherwise transition back into their daily lives.

We also have outpatient detoxification options available for clients who need help getting off of drugs and alcohol safely. Clients often move through detox before entering their treatment program (for example, before partial hospitalization), though it is not required.

IOP as a Step-Down Approach

It is true that some clients attend IOP in New Jersey without having completed a partial hospitalization program. However, there are many benefits to using IOP as a step-down form of care. When you complete PHP first, you have an opportunity to fully immerse yourself in treatment for a period of time. In PHP, you will get to work alongside medical and mental health providers for most of the day and will get all of the benefits of the higher level of supervision it provides.

Then, IOP acts as a transitional step that helps you bridge the gap between having as much support as a PHP client does and living your day-to-day life without being in a formal treatment program. You still have structure and a treatment team who has gotten to know you and your needs well, but with the added freedom IOP gives you. Part of the purpose of IOP is to help give you the tools you need to navigate the challenges that can arise when you start to spend more time outside of treatment.

For this reason, it is heavily recommended among addiction treatment professionals that clients engage in both PHP and IOP back-to-back. It’s important not to rush addiction treatment, and moving in steps can be incredibly helpful for achieving long-term recovery.

WE ARE HERE TO HELP

Our Intensive Outpatient Program: New Jersey

Now that you know more about the role of intensive outpatient programs, what sets ours apart? In addition to our team of experts in addiction care, there are so many reasons clients choose the intensive outpatient program at Prevail Recovery Center’s New Jersey location. Here are some of the things that make us a leading choice in substance abuse treatment.

Dual diagnosis care

The term “dual diagnosis” is used when a person meets the criteria for both a substance use disorder and at least one or more additional mental health conditions. Dual diagnosis care is a type of addiction treatment designed to address both substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions. We offer dual diagnosis care in all of our programs, including our IOP program in NJ.

Dual diagnosis care matters because it aids long-term recovery and helps clients get their full spectrum of mental health needs met. We treat most mental health conditions, including but not limited to anxiety disorders, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Sober living

Sober living refers to drug and alcohol-free housing for those recovering from substance use disorders. In sober living facilities, you have the same sense of independence and autonomy as you would in an apartment with a standard rental agreement. However, there’s an added sense of community and accountability because you will live alongside other sober individuals.

Since we are an outpatient-only substance abuse treatment facility, many of our clients who do not live nearby choose to live in our sober living facilities for the duration of their program at least. With that said, you don’t need to be in a treatment program to apply for sober living.

Evidence-based treatments

Our treatment center uses a range of research-backed therapies, treatments, and supplementary activities to provide clients with the most effective and comprehensive substance abuse and mental health care possible. If you want to know whether we offer a specific therapeutic modality or treatment that isn’t listed on our website, please don’t hesitate to reach out for more information.
