Introduction to Partial Hospitalization Program in New Jersey

Statistics from 2021 show that 16.5% of the United States population ages 12+ had experienced a substance use disorder in the past year, as defined by current diagnostic criteria. Unfortunately, 94% of those individuals did not receive help for their condition. Treatment options like Prevail Recovery Center’s partial hospitalization program in NJ save lives and are often more accessible than inpatient treatment. So, what should you know? First, let’s discuss what to expect in a partial hospitalization program, the differences between partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, and the benefits of a step-down approach in addiction treatment. Then, we’ll talk about what sets Prevail Recovery Center apart from other leaders in addiction treatment and how to get in touch.

Partial Hospitalization Program: New Jersey

Prevail Recovery Center is a fully outpatient treatment center with multiple levels of care. Partial hospitalization programs (PHP) are a very popular form of addiction treatment, and they are the most intensive kind of outpatient care. In some cases, PHP is also called acute partial care.

Our partial hospitalization program in New Jersey is a truly immersive experience. PHP clients at Prevail Recovery Center attend treatment for most of the day, six days per week. The time commitment is much like that of a full-time job, so clients do not typically work or attend school while in PHP.

Unlike inpatient treatment programs, which are otherwise very similar to PHP, you get to go home at the end of the day when you are in a partial hospitalization program. For many people, the ability to live off-campus is the main appeal of attending PHP as opposed to inpatient treatment, which would require that you eat, sleep, and live at your treatment facility full-time and allows for very little independence.

PHP consists of a combination of different therapies and treatments, which can include but aren’t limited to regular groups, individual therapy, family therapy, and medication management. Your treatment plan at Prevail Recovery Center will be 100% unique and tailored to your unique needs as a client, so what PHP looks like for one person compared to another may vary slightly.

The majority of clients stay in a partial hospitalization program for 1-3 months. Many people choose to step down to a lower level of care after they complete PHP. Most often, this means that a client will transition from PHP to an intensive outpatient program (IOP). We offer both PHP and IOP, alongside other treatment options.

PHP vs. IOP

Intensive outpatient programs require a much lower time commitment than PHP does. Usually, IOP clients can expect to attend treatment for roughly 12-15 hours each week, which is less than half of the time commitment required for PHP. That 12-15 hours of treatment will most often be distributed over 3-5 days per week, compared to the six days per week PHP clients spend in treatment. This extends a greater deal of flexibility and allows IOP clients to start transitioning back into everyday life.

Many IOP clients can start working, attending school, or caring for their families again due to the decreased time commitment. While PHP is intensive enough to replace inpatient treatment for many people, the same is not true for IOP. It is highly recommended that new clients attend PHP first and use IOP as a step-down form of care once they’re ready to move forward.

LEARN WHY PHP MIGHT BE THE BEST FIT

Using a Step-Down Approach

After completing a partial hospitalization program in NJ, it may feel like a shock to exit treatment entirely. A step-down approach is designed to bridge the gap between intensive forms of treatment like PHP and returning to typical everyday life without support from treatment providers. Just as you might expect, this means moving in small steps from very intensive care to non-intensive care.

Addiction experts agree that it is best to continue treatment of some kind after an intensive program like PHP. That way, you will still have access to the structure, regular check-ins, and services (such as therapy and medication management) treatment provides. Usually, this means that a client will finish PHP, transition to IOP, and then continue engaging in forms of support such as individual therapy, medication, or support groups once IOP is over. The recommended step after IOP is simply called outpatient.

Your treatment team will be able to help you move through new challenges that arise when you are in less intensive care and spend more time on standard daily live activities when you use the recommended step-down approach. For example, concerns that arise when you see old friends or are in an environment where you are exposed to substances.

PREVAIL RECOVERY CENTER

What Sets Prevail Recovery Center Apart?

Some of those looking for PHP in New Jersey may have been to treatment before. Alternatively, Prevail Recovery Center could be your first experience with addiction treatment. No matter what, our goal is to give every client the best possible care. In addition to multiple levels of care and expert staff members, here are some of the features that set us apart.

Dual diagnosis care

The term “dual diagnosis” is used when a person meets the criteria for both a substance use disorder and one or more additional mental health conditions. Dual diagnosis care is a type of addiction treatment that addresses both substance abuse and comorbid mental health concerns. We offer dual diagnosis care in all of our programs, including our partial hospitalization program in NJ. Dual diagnosis care matters because it aids long-term recovery and helps clients get their full spectrum of mental health needs met. We treat most mental health conditions, including but not limited to anxiety disorders, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Sober living

Sober living refers to drug and alcohol-free housing designed for those recovering from substance use disorders. Our sober living facilities give you the independence and autonomy you’d expect in an apartment with a standard rental agreement paired with the sense of community and accountability that comes with living alongside other sober individuals. Since we are an outpatient-only substance abuse treatment facility, many of our clients who do not live nearby choose to live in our sober living facilities for the duration of their program at least. With that said, you don’t need to be in a treatment program to apply for sober living.

Evidence-based treatments

Our treatment center uses a range of research-backed therapies, treatments, and activities to provide clients with the most effective and comprehensive substance abuse and mental health care possible. If you want to know whether we offer a specific therapeutic modality or treatment that isn’t listed on our website, please contact us for more information.
